Day 1 | Auckland - Rotorua
Friday Dec 27th
Kia Ora! Welcome to Auckland, New Zealand. Auckland is known as the City of Sails as it hosts numerous yacht marinas. Auckland has amazing cultural experiences, exciting restaurants, inner city hot spots, beautiful beaches and island escapes.
You will meet your guides at the Haka Lodge Auckland or similar for a tour meeting and then be we get on the road!
Today you will travel south to Rotorua, stopping off at Hobbiton en route. For those who chose the Hobbiton Options, you will experience the real Middle-Earth with a visit to the Hobbiton Movie Set, the bucolic seng for The Shire that featured in the Peter Jackson directed films, The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Trilogies.
Your Hobbiton tour starts with a drive through the picturesque 1,250 acre sheep farm with spectacular views across to the Kaimai Ranges. Your Hobbiton guide will escort you through the twelve acre site recounting fascinating details of how the Hobbiton Movie set was created.
The Hobbit holes, Green Dragon Inn, Mill and other structures created for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films can be viewed and you will see how this beautiful piece of Waikato farmland was transformed into The Shire from Middle-Earth.
Tonight in Rotorua, you will experience the most spectacular included evening dinner show and cultural performance you will see in New Zealand. It is rated as one of the best Cultural activities that you can do while you are exploring the country and we promise you won't be disappointed! You will be picked up from your accommodation and transferred to the Mitai Village. Here you will get a chance to walk around and view the traditional Waka (Maori Boat) and the Hangi (dinner) before you eat. The food is spectacular and make sure you go back for more than one serving! Aer your meal you will be treated to a guided bush walk through the Nave Forest and followed by a breath-taking Maori performance and cultural show.
Day 2 | Rotorua - Gisborne
Saturday Dec 28th
Before heading off to Gisborne and prepping for your 3 day festival ahead, why not try some of Rotorua’s famous adventure activities. There is so much fun to be had here!
Perhaps an adventure to the top of Skyline Gondola. Here you can enjoy a sumptuous buffet at Skyline’s Stratosfare Restaurant & Bar, located at the top of the Gondola.
Or you might like to have a soak at the Polynesian Spa or even have a try at Ogo! Ogo/zorbing is simply rolling down a hill in a huge plastic ball (the Zorb or OGO ball) with another ball inside it. Think of the mice barrels but travelling up to 30 km an hour.
Have a try at white water rafting where you snake through steep nave bush clad canyons and over 14 awesome rapids & 3 waterfalls including world-renowned 7 metre Tutea Falls, the Highest Commercially Rafted Waterfall in the World! Blended with touches of Maori culture, this trip offers it all, for both white water rating enthusiasts and first timers.
Once you have checked off some of these adventure activities in Rotorua, your guide will then drive yo to Gisborne where the town will be absolutely buzzing for the big week ahead at....Rhythm and Vines Festival!
Day 3 | Gisborne - Rhythm & Vines Day 1
Sunday Dec 29th
Rhythm and Vines is a New Year's festival held each year from December 28th -January 1st in Gisborne, New Zealand. It is famous for being one of the first places in the world to welcome the first sunrise of the new year.
We are in the midst of planning our 17th episode, and we can tell you that Rhythm and Vines will again be the best damn New Year's experience possible.
With over 100 international and local artists to perform on 4 stages and will be providing a top line production. The festival experiences will be paramount so we will be continuing to broaden the festival scope with the likes of Activities, Comedy, Art installations and of course ensuring you are well fed with our range of delicious food vendors.
Episode 14 took place on the last three days of 2016. It featured Chance the Rapper, Kimbra, Zhu, Rüfüs, Netsky, Wilkinson, Getter, GoldLink, Skream, Denzel Curry, Dusky, Hot Chip, Ac Slater, Savage, The Jordan Luck Band, Cut Snake, S. P. Episode 15 took place place on the last three days of 2017.It featured artists and bands such as Schoolboy Q, 2manydjs, Baauer, Mura Masa, Client Liaison, Giggs, Michael Dapaah as Big Shaq, Netsky, Wilkinson, Sub Focus, Tiga, A-Trak, B.Traits, Boombox Cartel, Camo & Crooked, Cut Snake, DJ T., David Dallas, Dick Johnson, Felix da Housecat, High Contrast, Javi Bora, P-Money, and many more.
Day 4 | Gisborne - Rhythm & Vines Day 2
Monday Dec 30th
Today we slowly get over our hangovers & then go explore what Gisborne has to offer! With Rhythm & Vines kicking off around 4pm in the Afternoon we've got just enough time to go for a quick tour around Gisborne & visit some of the world renowned Golden Sand Beaches Gisborne has on offer.
Day 5 | Gisborne - Rhythm & Vines Day 3
Tuesday Dec 31st
New Years Eve! We take it very easy today in preparation for the HUGE night ahead. An amazing Fireworks display just before the NYs countdown will blow you away! What better way to bring in the New Year.
Day 6 | Gisborne - Taupo
Wendesday Jan 1st
Happy New Year! And what a way to bring in the new decade in style! We know you might need a rest aer last’s night partying so will depart later than normal to let you have a little sleep in.
Your guide will then take you to one of the most visited holiday spots in the North Island, Lake Taupo! Lake Taupo which is actually a giant volcanic crater created 70,000 years ago in one of the biggest erupons in history. It is the size of Singapore! Peaceful nowadays, it’s one of New Zealand’s best places to escape and vacaon. Also, being New Zealand, there are plenty of adventure activities to be found there too. There is definitely an activity for everyone in Taupo and your guide will certainly have plenty of ps and suggestions. You might like to skydive, take a sailing trip on Lake Taupo or perhaps just grab some fish n chips to have down by the lake.
Please note, New Year's Day is a public holiday in New Zealand where many stores, restaurants etc may be closed, or open for reduced hours and the roads will be quite busy.
Day 7 | Taupo - Auckland Via Waitomo Caves
Thursday Jan 2nd
Sadly today is your last day on tour but we have a jammed packed day to make the most of it.
En route to Auckland, we will make a stop at Waitomo were you can have the opportunity to visit one of the glow worm caves which are world renowned and a magnet for both local and overseas visitors! The Waitomo Glowworm Caves occupies a high placing in the New Zealand vacation wish-list. The tour will take you through over 250 metres of stunning underground scenery commencing with the impressive Cathedral. It also includes an unrivaled boat trip through the spectacular glow worm groo where you enter a galaxy of ny living lights.
Or perhaps try the black water raing opon! In 3 hours you will experience the Black Labyrinth Tour which is the original Waitomo subterranean adventure that will have you climbing, black water tubing, leaping and floating through Ruakuri Cave.
We also stretch the legs with one of the many walks in the area, the Ruakuri Walk is a great free aracon in the Waitomo Caves area. Based in the Ruakuri Scenic Reserve, a place of strong cultural significance to Maori, the walk includes limestone outcrops, nave forest and small caves to be explored.
Then it's on to your final stop for this tour, Auckland. The tour officially ends upon arriving at the Haka Lodge Auckland. Your guide will help you check in for your last night’s booked accommodation.
